I am NEW to Parmalee, where should I start?
First of all, welcome to Parmalee Elementary! We’re happy to have you, and look forward to meeting you and your family. A great place to start is to check out the calendar for the school events, deadlines, etc. We also encourage you to visit the Parmalee Elementary School website.
Join PTA
By joining PTA, you help us meet the needs of Parmalee, which benefits all of our children. Your membership gets you more involved in various programs, events and only members have a vote for the contributions the PTA makes back to the school.
Your support also helps fund Parmalee's special programs, classroom supplies, technology, teacher education, facility upgrades and more.
Becoming a member is easy. The cost is only $10 for one adult and $15 per family.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does it mean to be a PTA member and why should I join?
Becoming a member of Parmalee PTA includes paying one time annual dues and participating at ANY level that works for you. You can pay your fee as a donation to PTA, attend no meetings, all meetings, or some meetings. You can volunteer on a committee, at a specific event, or not at all. Your participation level is up to you and whatever works best for your schedule is great.
If your student participates in any of the PTA-Sponsored Activities, we kindly request you join.
What are some different ways I can participate in PTA?
PTA is a volunteer-driven organization and we appreciate all of the parents, community members, staff and students that make us the great organization that we are. While we also appreciate your membership, you do not need to be a member to volunteer at a PTA event, student program, or as a Room Parent. PTA members may serve on a Committee for a Parmalee event. Any PTA member in good standing may serve as a Committee Chair or a PTA Board member.
The most important piece is that your participation level is up to you.
Join PTA, but never able to attend a meeting or event? We understand! Want to help, but need something that works with younger children at home? We get that, too! Let us know through the Volunteer Interest Form and we’ll find something that is right for you. There is no minimum requirement for participation and no judgment is made regarding your level of participation. We are all working together in our own way to support our families, school and community. At Parmalee Elementary and in PTA, all parents with any schedule are welcome and we’re all a part of this “village” together.
Why should I pay dues and become a member if I cannot attend meetings and events? Or some might ask, if I cannot volunteer for a committee or attend the meetings, should I still become a member and pay dues?
We think you should join, but the decision is really up to you. If you have a student participating in any PTA-Sponsored activity, we kindly ask you join. In the event that you are able to attend a meeting or two, only PTA members may vote at meetings. At our General Meetings we vote on Grants to Parmalee, future funding priorities, planning for PTA events, the PTA budget, and many other decisions every year. We appreciate your input on these issues!
There is a benefit to Parmalee if you join, even if you cannot volunteer for a committee or attend meetings. Your membership fee alone contributes to our annual budget and therefore our Grants to Parmalee. As a PTA member, you also have access to the CO State PTA and National PTA websites www.copta.org and www.pta.org. These sites contain parenting education, advocacy information and on-line learning tools.
What happens at the PTA monthly meetings?
The PTA General Meetings are held the 2nd Wednesday of every Month, 2:50-3:30p in the Parmalee Library and via GoogleMeet and are posted on our calendar.
General Meetings are open to any interested party. This includes PTA members, Parmalee Elementary parents and staff, and our Community Members. At these meetings, we conduct the business of PTA. This usually includes discussing the most current events at Parmalee, approving pending agenda items, voting on changes in the PTA program, voting on the PTA budget and grants to Parmalee, providing updates, and taking suggestions.
Our meetings are meant to be a collaborative process to ensure PTA is serving the Parmalee community well and representing PTA membership effectively.
What is the difference between the PTA members, the Executive Board, Committees, Committee Chairs and Collaborative Decision Making (CDM)?
- PTA Members – PTA members are parents, community members, and staff who have paid their annual dues. Only Members can vote in PTA Meetings.
- PTA Committees – The PTA Committees are small groups that coordinate the events and programs at Parmalee. Examples include 100Mile Club, Green Team, Reflections, Science Fair, etc. Not every event or program has a working Committee. Some are smaller programs and are organized by the Committee Chair alone. Not every working committee holds meetings, in fact most do not.
- PTA Committee Chairs – A Chair is assigned to each Committee to lead the efforts.
- PTA Executive Committee - Elected group of parents: President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary to work collaboratively to guide the PTA.
- PTA Board of Directors – The PTA Board is a group of volunteer Parents collaboratively making decisions for the PTA, manages the PTA budget and finances, report to Colorado PTA, and manage the Committees by working with the Committee Chairs to ensure successful PTA events and programs. Anyone is welcome to be a part of the Board.
- Collaborative Decision Making Team (CDM) at Parmalee is a shared leadership model that brings together staff, parents, and community members to make informed decisions that support student achievement and school improvement. The CDM team meets regularly to review data, discuss priorities, and provide input on key topics such as the school budget, staffing, and programming—ensuring that diverse perspectives help shape the direction of the school. How can I become more involved?
If you’d like to participate as a volunteer at one of our upcoming Parmalee events or programs, visit the volunteer section on this site for current opportunities and/or fill out a volunteer interest form. Some committees need more help than others.
If you are interested in leading a Committee or steering PTA as a member of the Board, we are interested in you! Each January a Nominating Committee is formed. This Committee seeks parents who are willing and interested in either a Committee Chair position or an Executive Board position.
The Nominating Committee members can help potential candidates understand the work load, expectations, and job descriptions for available positions. The Nominating Committee seeks to fill positions by March so that the Executive Board slate can be voted in at the March General Meeting and transitions between outgoing and incoming Chairs and Executive Board members can take place in May and June.
